GENRE Selection
As we get ready to launch our second HORROR Challenge, we have had a few questions about how the Genre Selection will work, so here is a brief primer and a sample of the different genres.
Our Launch Event will be held on October 14th 2010 at the Emerging Artist Productions Studios in Santa Clara California. Doors will open at 6pm so teams, friends and family members can join in the fun. At 7pm the announcements will begin, which will include a Launch Video, the Genre Selection and Element Requirements.
Each Team Leader (or representative) will draw an envelope from a cauldron of mystical genres, then will draw another envelope that contains a required element that must be in their film to qualify. The genre that you draw will be a specific horror theme and you WILL BE REQUIRED to make that theme the PRIMARY genre concept of your submitted film. These sub-genres will include:
Zombie, Mummy, Ghost/Ghoul, Invisible Man/Woman, Werewolf, Genetic Mutation, Vampire, Psychological Terror, Alien Invasion, Puppets/Clowns, Witchcraft, Demonic Possession, Alien Abduction, Giant Monster, Hitchcock and more.
Each genre card selected will have 3 feature films listed on it, to give each team an idea of what kind of films that genre represents and if that genre has any special requirements (example: The "Hitchcock" genre has the stipulation that the film MUST be shot in black & white), while these are your primary genres, teams can add additional ideas/concepts and genre elements that they see fit (example: your "Alien Invasion" film can be a dramatic or comedic production, but the core must be Alien Invasion-ish!).
Finally, your element card will have three distinct elements listed, you will be required to choose ONE of the three elements to be included in your film, the element could be a prop, a location or even a musical cue, but you must include it to qualify for award consideration.
So get your locations mapped out, your team established and get your equipment ready to go, it's almost time to LET THE CHALLENGE BEGIN!!
